Where Are Your Baby Photos?
When my son turned 8 years old, my husband and I were invited to visit his class for a small celebration. A couple days before his birthday, he announced that he needed some baby photos to show his classmates. Where are your baby photos?! I had taken thousands of pictures of my son over the years. Sadly, I had not been good about printing them. Not to worry! There are digital files. Somewhere. We had gotten new computers, moved several times, and frankly, I wasn’t sure where those digital files were.
What a wakeup call for me as a professional photographer! If someone asked me to show them a picture of myself as a baby, I could go straight to an album and show them my childhood within minutes. But with my own child, who has been photographed a hundred times more than I was, it took some major digging through hard drives and online photo storage sites to find the high resolution files I needed to make some last-minute prints. My boy is only 8 years old! Where are those digital files going to be in 20 years when we want to show his friends what he looked like as a child? Or 50 years from now when we are reminiscing about our family’s many adventures? Will those digital files even be readable as new technology replaces the jpeg?
I recently began giving my clients a full-service photography experience that ends with quality family art in their hands. My experience with my son has shown me the importance of printing quality prints, albums, and wall art that will last for generations. I know people are busy, and though they may have every intention of printing photos of their family, life gets in the way. It takes time to properly prepare digital images for print or lay out an heirloom album. On top of that, most people don’t know where to get high quality prints that will not warp or fade in a few years’ time. I want to provide this service for my clients, because captured moments tell the story of our lives, and should be enjoyed for generations. I offer complimentary design service for all of my clients, and because I am so passionate about my clients walking away with tangible items, I include matted prints for newborn, maternity, or lifestyle photography sessions and full albums for my birth story clients. Of course, you can also add on prints, wall art, or albums to any lifestyle sessions as well.
